Wedding Tree October 2011

This was my first time taking an order from the US (granted the order had to be sent to city about 1 hour from my home town of Sarnia, Ontario so I felt confident that I could get it there safe and sound). The bride to be sent me the names super early and I crafty as soon as a I could so that I could get it sent off with lots of time for their wedding :)

Once again I'm taking part in the weekend to end women's cancers in toronto... but to even walk a step, i need to raise some cash. $1250.00 to be exact. Right now I'm sitting at around 20% of my goal, so I have decided to take some steps (also known as bribery) to increase my percentage raise.

Here are some tidbits about the Walk:
- this will be my fourth time doing it.
- I LOVE that they have a one day option again this year. But that still means about 32-33kms in one day.
- walking is hard. raising money is harder.
- I can barely walk past Princess Margaret Hospital without going into the ugly cry.
- I love the people that I walk with and for.
- I can barely lift my feet off the ground after walking that much.

Rock Out Forever Party!

What do you for a girl who loves music and lots of it? Well, a rock out party of course. A previous Halloween costume inspired this party!

the RESERVED area just for the girls...containers are set up with stuff for their art project. I always have an activity for the kids to do at the beginning of the party to allow for all the guests to arrive

Pirates and Princesses Party Memories

This party is one from a few years ago... but it still brings back lots of smiles. It was one of the last ones when both both and girls were both party of the party invites.

This sign welcomed you to the party (look at how great some old pieces of plywood can look!)

and there was even a plank for the kids to walk on! Eventually this turned in to a little bit of a battle on the plank with kids pushing the others off and into the SHARK waters!

And just another little sign made out of scrap wood. Cute right?

Ultimate Party Planners Party!

Maya and I had to plan to use her favourite TV shows to come up with her 10th birthday party theme... and so it came together as the "ultimate party planner" birthday party! We combined the Cupcake Theme, Party Planners, Say yes to the Dress and a little from America's Got Talent and came up with a fun 3 hours with 12 girls in the backyard!

They had to decorate their own areas based on themes they picked form a hat... This is the Circus Table! We also had Tea Party and Beach themes for the other tables.

This is a little Mad Hatter at the Tea Party table... they were the 'Best Table Winner' chosen by the all the girls

then the girls had to dress appropriately for their party using tiolet paper and streamers and some props.
Looks like the Mad Hatter will make it after all!

and the crazy Circus lady made an appearance too! This one won the Best Dressed prize!

and this was party of the entertainment... these guys won the best Talent award for their beach dance!

Is this not the cutest gift table that you have ever seen? Under that is the ugliest picnic bench ever!

And the gift unveiling turned out the be an event too!

Last year I started making these gift tags with pictures instead of writing names (that toddlers can't read anyway!). This year I used the iron on transfer papers and came up with these! This little guy picks up his gift every morning and checks out the tree if any more have appeared overnight.

I found this piece of fabric (actually an old table cloth) weeks ago and was instantly in love with it. I knew I wanted to bring it back to life! My diningroom table is once again a mess, but I made 3 of these pennants with little snippits of New England all over it!

I'm putting these up on Etsy as a group (I don't think they should be separated) today... so pop over to my Etsy shop and take a look or if you really like them .... get a hold of me! Each pennant has 9 double side flags and is approximately 90" long (that's 7'6"!).

This was a little project I was working on... not for money but because I literally and truly hate cancer. All forms of it.

But out of this little side project I found out some stuff:
1. I love making fun and colourful designs just like when I was 14 years old.
2. I really like making shirts and long for a room big enough to run a full blown silk screening studio
3. I can still make stuff using some great stuff - iron on transfer papers! It brings me back to a time of my Michael Jackson Thriller baseball shirt along with my Police Syncronicity shirt! I love the smell of iron on transfers!

I love the front designs of the shirts but I truly HEART the little should badges that I thought of adding on as an added special touch. If you have ever walked in a relay or any other charity walk, it's always hard to pick out your team members from behind. This little badge made it easy to pick out all the princess!

Party goers earn their money at the candy shop - guessing the number of candies, making chocolate dipped rice crispy squares and decorating their very own candy apples!

Other jobs that we up on the JOB BOARD - Clothing designers (we did tie dye shirts), dog walking, candy makers, baby sitting, and gardening (they transferred flowers in to individual pots to take home).

Today was the day and all the prep and planning was all worth it when 11 little 9 year old girls enjoyed the activities, the loot, the decorations and each other!

One of the jobs was working at the candy shop making caramel apples. I don't know if these looked as good as they taste but they had fun making them.

I'm done having babies but I still love to make things for them and their momma's. This one is the same idea as the Laundry Line that I have for wedding/couples, but instead of have one more thing in the house (once the baby comes it's all about baby when in comes to large items in the house - people love to give you ginormous things that take up all the floor space!) I have come up with a keepsake box.There are 30 cutout cards that can be used for all those baby shower games (that bring out chorus of either cheers or groans) or invite the guests to write down their best advice about babies. Box also includes 10feet of twine and approximately 50 mini clothespins.

I went paper internet shopping last week (one of my most favourite things) and stumbled upon pineapple papers! I ordered one in each colour - I think I got 17 sheets sent to me - just to try them to see if they would work for what I was thinking... and they worked out great. I'm a fan!

I used the red to make one of my window art projects (sorry I don't think I took a picture before I handed it off of the lovely lady who ordered it).

No one on this earth has more personality than this little one... at least in my opinion... and this invitation is my attempt at capturing her spirit.

This party was all about the girls... they dress up as their favourite stars, drank sparkling juice, participated in dance offs and sing offs, played lots of rock star games and had a great time just being girls.

They even went home with swag bags full of personalized stuff just for them.

Instead of a guest book, this couple (actually the bride) chose a laundry line to have guests write some personalize messages to the couple.

I provided the wired up reclaimed window frame (no glass), mini clothes pins and clothing cut outs from scrapbooking papers. And then as a extra embellishment, I found this little photo charm to tack on to the window frame with a super cute picture of the couple!

I look at these pennants and I remember my son in his very first big boy bed (bunk beds to be exact). The wild west theme is one he has grown out of, but I love this fabric and held on to the pillowcases for years. I'm glad that they got used somewhere else!

Found materials... the blue and green check is an old table cloth, the blue and green rounds originally came from Towers Department store (still have the cutting label) and I found it a local thrift shop along with the cute little red girl print, the big bold stripes came from an old sheet and the solids are fabric remnants from projects past.

Way back in 2005, I decided to sign up for the Weekend to End Breast Cancer... I thought walk 60kms, I can do that... then I thought, raise $2000, HOW.

Then I decided that if someone donated towards my goal, I would thank them with a home/cottage portrait in watercolours... up until then I had only done one other. But it turned out so well that I decided I could do it. Turns out I raised my goal and more and to this day I am asked to make some pretty special creations. It hasn't stopped at homes/cottages... I have been asked to do boats too! I have backed off any pet or people requests (I'm just not that brave yet).

So to this day, I still do these watercolours. I think that it's pretty amazing that people ask me to capture their most prefect precious plase on paper...

PS - Sorry for the quality of pictures... this was way before I learned HOW to take better pictures ;-)

Celebration Pennants

I make these colourful treats from all kinds of scrap fabrics that find their way to my house. Some are from old sheets, table clothes, curtains - some might be an old shirt that was injured - some other interesting remnants are from my many trips to local thrift shops. But when they are all pulled together they make colourful additions to any party, get together or room.
